Notwithstanding, the application has much better functionalities that enable page formatting. For instance, features such as text font size, bold, italics, underline and other underline styles such as strikethrough, double underline, etc. The program has data formatting capabilities that ensure the final document appeals to the eye during reading, presentation and also for printing. Having in mind that Microsoft Word enables typing of data, it is important to consider the available data formatting features. In such cases, the user can easily correct spelling errors all in a single instance as well as word suggestions available from the Dictionary. Additionally, the Spelling and Grammar checker is accessible by pressing the function key F7 in the software window. It marks misspelled words with an underline, and even utilizes the autocorrect feature in case of obvious spelling errors in phrases or words. Microsoft Word has an inbuilt dictionary for spell checking. Evidently, the most common shortcut for Word ”Help” option is F1 key. Moreover, the development team goes an extra mile by implementing shortcut keys for accessing menus and specific sub-menus. Most menus and tabs in the window have a text tip that informs the user about its function. Similar to the other applications in the office suite, the menu layout is simple and easy to understand. Such needs range from faster access to the menu items and options in the Microsoft Word Window. Regarding the user needs and ease-of use, the development team seems to have keenly considered most of the user requirements. Furthermore, the improvements on the user interface ensure easier and faster navigation by users. Considering the file formats, currently the documents created using the word processor allow viewing even in other different word processing applications. However, since its launch, revisions have ensured compatibility of the documents generated from the word processor. Being one of the components of the Microsoft office suite, it is available for Windows and MacOS. Earlier, the documents created using MS Word could only be viewed by other users who have the same program installed. While it is compatible for Windows, there are also versions for other Operating systems. The first release was in 1981, then other releases in the following years. The program uses a graphical user interface which enables users to type and save documents. I am the first to say though that I think the Microsoft Word feature set is hard to beat.Microsoft Word (MS Word) is a word processing program developed by Microsoft. Having the Office Online access is hugely helpful to my productivity, even though, as mentioned, I can work around it via Google Docs. But there are times when I get stuck needing to live and work in a Microsoft Word/Office world for a project. To be clear, as I have noted many times here on Forbes, I am a huge Google and Docs fan and love their products and use them on a daily basis. So be careful because most sites promising you a full desktop version at no cost are either scams, or at the very least, quite dubious. Of course, if you are looking for the offline version, the full desktop version, that is much harder to come by for free. So, you can store your documents here and open them up to others, as you see in the screenshot above. It works very similarly to Google Docs, arguably the de facto standard for online collaboration, and why you see Microsoft online at this level - because they cannot continue to give up ground to Google, frankly. I find the Office Online version keeps things simple for creating, using, and sharing documents with others.
